The Swiss technology business SCHURTER was founded in 1933
The SCHURTER company was founded in 1933 by Heinrich Schurter as a limited partnership and transformed into a stock corporation in 1949. In 1990 the establishment of SCHURTER Holding AG, still existing today, took place with headquarters in Lucerne (Switzerland).
In January 2015 Hans-Rudolf Schurter handed over the operative management of the SCHURTER Group to Ralph Müller.
To secure its position as a leading innovator and producer of electronic components the SCHURTER Group has expanded significantly through acquisitions in recent years.
December 1, 2023, Lars Brickenkamp assumed the position of CEO of SCHURTER Holding AG and has been leading the SCHURTER Group since then. Lars Brickenkamp, a certified electrical engineer, brings many years of experience in senior positions in the electronics industry. His proven track record and expertise make him an ideal choice to lead SCHURTER into a promising future. Before joining SCHURTER, Lars Brickenkamp worked in Hong Kong.
In 2023, there was a significant change in the ownership structure of the SCHURTER Group. The Swiss investor Capvis, specializing in mid-sized company investments, acquired a majority stake in the SCHURTER Group based in Lucerne.
The SCHURTER Group, headquartered in Lucerne, has been successful worldwide as a manufacturer of components for safe power supplies, input systems, and high-demand electronic solutions. Since its founding, the company has always been in the hands of the Schurter family.
Hans-Rudolf Schurter, Chairman of the Board of the long-established Lucerne-based technology ompany SCHURTER, hands over the sceptre to his younger brother Thomas Schurter on 1 May 2020.
After almost 35 years success in leading positions including CEO of the technology business, Hans-Rudolf Schurter is retiring. The reason for this is not due to a lack of enthusiasm for his duties, but to the company's Articles of Association. According to these statutes, the term of office of a member on the Board of Directors of SCHURTER Holding AG ends at the Annual General Meeting following the completion of his 70th year of age.
As part of the further integration into the SCHURTER Group, AKI ELECTRONIC spol. s r.o. changes its name to SCHURTER Electronics spol. s r.o. as of January 1, 2020. The company address, company entry, VAT identification number and bank account number remain unchanged.
AKI ELECTRONIC was acquired by the SCHURTER Group in 2017. Since that time, AKI ELECTRONIC solutions have been managed by Input Systems.
The Solutions business unit began operations 5 years ago. And it grew quickly. This is reason enough to look back on the early beginnings.
The idea of providing overall solutions isn't just 5 years old. For proof one needs only to leaf through the pages of SCHURTER's history. Back in the days when Strategy 18 was devised, it was clear that SCHURTER AG would transform from purely a component supplier to a system supplier as well.
As of 1st January 2017, SCHURTER Holding AG acquires the Austrian Burisch Elektronikteile GmbH and the Czech aki electronic, a manufacturer of keyboards, touch panels and HMI systems.
This will enable SCHURTER to increase its production capacity, enlarge its know-how and a geographical expansion to Eastern Europe. With this integration the SCHURTER Group has enhanced its know-how and improved prospects in the markets of Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
SCHURTER has expanded its presence in Europe by creating a new subsidiary in Poland, SCHURTER Electronics Sp. z o.o.
SCHURTER has expanded its presence in Europe by creating a new subsidiary SCHURTER Electronics Sp. z o.o. in Poland, based in Warsaw. SCHURTER plans to strengthen its local presence with the newly opened Polish Sales Agency. They will offer a local design-in centre to support the design in the electronics industry of Poland.
Hans-Rudolf Schurter (65) has successfully served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SCHURTER Group, Lucerne, for almost 30 years, and on January 1, 2015, he is transferring his responsibilities to Ralph Müller (45). With this, for the first time in the more than 80 years of company history, operative management of this manufacturer of electronic components is being placed in the hands of someone outside the family.
Müller has been with SCHURTER for ten years. He began his professional career with an apprenticeship as a mechanic, studying then at the Technical College of Zurich to earn a degree in mechanical engineering, thereafter post-graduate studies leading to a degree in business administration and finally an executive MBA. In 2014 he completed in-depth management education at the renowned Stanford University in California. From 1990 to 2003 he worked in various functions where he gained extensive experience in general management and in managing the production of electronic components. In 2004 he joined the SCHURTER family as Head of Production. Five years ago he took over executive management as CEO of our founding company SCHURTER AG in Lucerne. Commenting on assuming the role as overall head of this Group, with a total of 18 Group companies in 16 countries (and of them 10 being production operations, including in Switzerland), Müller says, "I am thankful and proud that this trust has been placed in me, and I look forward to taking on the challenges we will face in the future. Our management principles – based on role models, trust, responsibility, change and connections – will help me to drive the company ahead even further following the values of the founding family".
SCHURTER Holding AG has acquired Danielson Europe B.V. from Hydratec N.V., Amersfoort (The Netherlands).
Through the acquisition of Danielson Europe B.V., the SCHURTER Group is strengthening its position in the growing market for input systems. Danielson has facilities in Hardenberg (Netherlands), Amersfoort (Netherlands) and Aylesbury (U.K.). With 150 employees, the company develops and manufactures input systems with resistive and capacitive technologies as well as membrane keyboards for industrial applications. With this acquisition, SCHURTER is gaining entry into the markets for input systems in Benelux, Scandinavia, Great Britain and France. The expansion allows even better support for customers thanks to direct contacts with the company and an expanded network of expert partners. In addition, with this acquisition the Division Input Systems is adding its technology portfolio.
SCHURTER expands its vertical integration and integrated with Ticomel SA a proven specialist for EMC and EMS
SCHURTER is strengthening its production expertise in the field of filter production and also expands the vertical range of manufacture to the possibility to offer electronic manufacturing services. Otto Heil, a producer of device connectors is included in the SCHURTER Group
To strengthen its position as a provider of device connectors SCHURTER takes over the company Otto Heil in Oberursel, Germany, which specializes in the development and production of IEC connectors.
SCHURTER accepts the Meier Hofer AG in Mellingen, a well-organized small business that manufactures input systems for the Swiss market.

SCHURTER AG acquires Weber Protection AG in Emmenbrücke in order to expand the product range in the area of device protection.
SCHURTER is strengthening its position as a competent supplier of products to secure power supply and acquires the Weber Protection AG and its respective sales organizations. This acquisition supports a product expansion to circuit breakers and at the same time an extension of its sales channels abroad.
The sales activities in the US are reinforced by the establishment of a subsidiary in USA. Thus, the expansion strategy on the North American continent will be intensified.
Heinrich SCHURTER founds a Employees Commission.
